Best Buy has added text alerts as a way to communicate special offers, events, promotions, Top Deals and other news. The retailer’s May 11 weekly “Top Deals” email blast encouraged sign-ups for the alerts, while a call to action directed recipients to a dedicated “Text Alerts” enrollment page within A confirmation text followed.

For the past couple of years, Best Buy shoppers have been able to opt in for text alerts regarding home delivery dates and appointments with Geek Squad advisers using 3Cinteractive’s (which was acquired by IMImobile last year) Rich Communications Services (RCS). RCS technology enhances messages with product images, maps for store pickup and other purchase details.

Best Buy also used text notifications around the holidays last year for its Black Friday and “12 Days of Deals” discounts. Consumers could sign up for daily, automatic text alerts when each 24-hour deal went live, or subscribe to alerts about individual doorbusters.
